Pekan: The wish of an octogenarian who is also a stroke survivor was fulfilled when he finally got to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in person at his home in Kampung Telok, near here, Saturday.Zainudin Sulong, 83, who had been bedridden for five years, never thought that his wish to meet the country's number one leader and Pekan Member of Parliament face to face would ever come true.

"I only see him on television and I never imagined that he would be right in front of my eyes and being so kind as to visit me today despite his busy schedule," he said while overcome with emotion.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by Pulau Manis Assemblyman Datuk Khairuddin Mahmud, spent about 10 minutes with Zainudin, who was a Kampung Telok Umno branch secretary in the 50s and 60s.

Zainudin said he was informed by his wife Noriah Mohamed, 62, last week that Najib was coming to visit him.

Meanwhile, Noriah said her husband, a government retiree, had never seen Najib at close range although he did have the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister's father, Tun Razak Hussein, on certain occasions involving grassroot programmes at the village when the latter was Prime Minister.

"My husband admires Najib and often expresses his amazement at the Prime Minister's ability to lead the country despite various challenges and problems," she said.

Noriah said Zainudin was ecstatic about Najib's visit, "it will boost his spirit to cope with his situation and to remain strong," she added.
