4km run among Anzac Day highlights

Kota Kinabalu: The Anzac Day Celebrations this year will start with a 4km symbolic run starting from Padang Merdeka at 7.30am and ending at the City Hall building compound on Wednesday (April 26). Expected to be flagged-off by Australia's High Commissioner to Malaysia, it is organised by City Hall on behalf of the Sabah State Government. The run is held in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives to liberate Sabah from the Japanese occupation during World war Two.

It is also held to instil awareness on the contributions of ordinary people of Sabah who displayed extraordinary courage and performed many heroic deeds during the war. The run would be followed by wreath laying at 8.30am at the World War 1 Memorial, Jalan Tugu, which will be led by the Chief Minister. Amongst the dignitaries expected to perform the laying of wreath are the High Commissioner of Australia to Malaysia, State Secretary of Sabah, Federal Secretary of Sabah, Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City, Commissioner of Police Sabah Contingent, Commander Task Force 450, Commander Naval Area 2, Commander Air Region 2 and First Admiral (Maritime). In view of this, a few roads would be closed in stages i.e. a) From 7 am to 9 am, starting at Jalan Padang-Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman-Jalan Bukit Nenas-Jalan Istana-Jalan Bandaran-Jalan Tugu (in front of Kota Kinabalu City Hall building) and b) From 7am to 10am, Kg Air roundabout towards Jalan Pantai roundabout.

The Jalan Tugu bus terminal will also be closed from 6am to 11.30am that day.
