Careless and inconsiderate driving: Two women fined

Kota Kinabalu: Two women were slapped with a fine of RM4,500 or two months' jail each by the Traffic Court here on Wednesday for careless and inconsiderate driving which resulted in an accident.Suzie Mohamad, 40, pleaded guilty to committing the offence while driving a vehicle along Jalan Tuaran near Kg Rampayan in Manggatal at 10pm on April 8, 2014.Evelyn Wong, 19, admitted to the offence committed at 11.15pm on Oct 22, 2016 at the Foh Sang traffic lights at Jalan Kolam, here.

Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Hanif Mamyudi told Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun that in Suzie's case, investigations revealed that Suzie had carelessly changed lanes, causing a motorcyclist to ram into her car.The motorcyclist, one Azmin Shah Hamid, fractured his left arm.Meanwhile, in Wong's case, Hanif said initial investigation revealed that Wong, who was from the Kota Kinabalu direction heading towards Taman Kinamount at a junction to Taman Seri Gaya, had knocked a motorcycle on the right lane.The accident caused the motorcyclist to sustain severe injuries and was warded at the Intensive Care Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital II but passed away on Nov 2.

The court heard that investigations revealed that the accident was due to Wong's carelessness for not giving way to other motorists on the straight lane.Both Suzie and Wong requested for leniency.

They committed an offence under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amended 1999), which carries a fine of between RM4,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months on conviction.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
