Two top Filipino militants among 18 wanted by Esscom
Lahad Datu: Two top militants in the Philippines are among 18 men wanted by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) mainly for cross-border crimes. Its Commander DCP Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid (pic), who released the wanted list on Thursday, said all those foreigners were being sought in connection with cross-border crimes at the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) last year.

He said the head of the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan and Islamic State (IS) head in Southern Philippines, Isnilon Hapilon, as well as the Maute militant chief, Abdullah Maute, in Marawi City were also included in the list for fear they will escape to Sabah disguising as foreign fishermen or illegal immigrants.

"Following military action by the Philippines government in Marawi City, we fear that they will flee to our country, therefore, we have included them in the 'Wanted Person' list.

"Hence, we are seeking cooperation from the public to immediately convey information to Esscom if they have any information or tip-off on these wanted persons," he said.

Wan Bari said the public can contact Esscom at 089-863181 or via WhatsApp at 013-8803585 and 019-2305909, or go to the nearest police station. - Efa Rizan
