Op to nab the 'big fish' put off: MACC

Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has put off to next month the planned action to net certain "big fish" in the State."It will be postponed to October because this month MACC will be making more outreach programmes," said Its Director Datuk Sazali Salbi.The department will also concentrate on its 50 years of change which was formerly known as Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) or Badan Pencegah Rasuah (BPR), he said, after witnessing some 500 staff of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) take the corruption-free pledge on Thursday.

In August, MACC nabbed 14 government personnel, eight of them medical assistants of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) who allegedly falsified their overtime claims amounting to RM126,757.24. It had allegedly been going on for years.The other six individuals were police personnel, four from Lahad Datu who were believed involved in bribery and two more policemen attached to the Narcotics Unit in Penampang.Sazali said Sabah MACC will be organising a convoy involving high powered motorcycles that will travel from Kota Kinabalu to Sindumin on Sept 23 to bring a message of war on corruption.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Meanwhile SESB Management Director IR Abd Razak Salim said SESB will stay committed against corruption, adding that the pledge was relevant for the department as they are always dealing with various parties.
