Pandemic flu simulation drill

Kota Kinabalu: A Pandemic Influenza Simulation Training was carried out on Tuesday here by the District Health Office to improve the awareness level of medical personnel of the State involving unwanted cases of pandemic flu.District Health Epidemiology Officer Dr Sahrol Nizam Abu Bakar said that the simulation emphasises more on Avian Influenza which have high cases in China and Hong Kong.

Sahrol said it is vital for the state to be cautious of the disease since the Sabah has been a tourist attraction especially to China and Hong Kong.

"Sabah is still free from any cases and it is vital for us to take precaution for any unwanted cases especially that Sabah has more tourist from China and Hong Kong," he said during a press conference at Luyang Health Clinic.

He added that the state medical personnel needs more efficiency to handle such case and that is why the department has been carrying out simulations annually to tackle such cases.

The simulation was carried out at Likas Bay and Inanam Hospital in collaboration with Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Sabah Sea Departmenr, Fire and Rescue Department and Sabah Ports. - Jeremy S. Zabala
