SHAH ALAM: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said his administration could pay civil servants in the State two months' bonus unlike the Federal Government. The PKR Deputy President said this in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who said that civil servants have a bleak future under Opposition rule.

"We should not look down on the role of civil servants. As a sign of respect and appreciation, we have given two months' bonus to civil servants compared to the federal government.

"I think the PM has taken a wrong move by undermining the role of civil servants, be it on the state or federal level," Azmin said.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government gave civil servants in Budget 2017 tabled last October a "special assistance" of RM500 for the second year running.

Azmin added that civil servants should not be dragged into politics by any party as it was unbecoming because they were not involved in any way.

Najib had claimed that if Pakatan Harapan took over Putrajaya, the number of civil servants would be halved.

Meanwhile, the Selangor government has never opposed any alcohol-related festivals in the state as long they comply with local regulations, Azmin Ali said.

He claimed it was normal for events beer festivals to be held here yearly as long as organisers abide by local authorities' regulations.

"It is not an issue at all in Selangor. We have given the approval for the last few years but the organisers need to fulfil the terms. That is normal practice," Azmin told reporters when met at the sidelines of an event today.

However, it is unclear if the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will allow the "German F&B Party" and Oktoberfest for now.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Fuzi Harun said the authorities had recommended against the Better Beer Festival 2017, scheduled at Publika in Kuala Lumpur, as they received information of planned attempts to sabotage the event.

He stressed that the cancellation had nothing to do religious or racial sensitivities.
