Refurbish abandoned govt buildings, urges Hiew

Kota Kinabalu: Luyang assemblyman Datuk Hiew King Chieu urged the State Government to put up plans to refurbish the many condemned and abandoned government buildings in Sabah.He said the government can use them in the future while also proposing buildings that are unsafe to be demolished to make way for future developments."The government can also plan for joint-venture arrangement with private developers.

"This will generate revenue from the abandoned sites without incurring tax-payer's money – at the same time giving the town the facelift it needs," he said in a statement.One example of such buildings is the "Tam Kan Flats" in Inanam, which has been abandoned for many years.Meanwhile, he said residents of Luyang Taman Kinamount have requested for a jogging track to be built on an open space.He said this is so that the elderly can have a proper facility to exercise.

"I promise to look into the request and arrange for immediate work to be carried out."The work will include tidying up the trees in the open space, planting new flower trees, repairing the broken benches and sheds, and of course building the new concrete jogging track," he said.
