Kota Kinabalu: Pakatan NGO Pro BN Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar called for thorough investigations against an opposition party leader who allegedly accused the government of offering MyKads to foreigners in return for their votes. Zulkarnain, who is also Gerakan Akar Umbi Umno Malaysia (Gaum) Chairman, said the malicious allegation pose a negative perspective among the people towards the Barisan Nasional Government.

He said they are upset by the actions of the opposition leaders who use various ways to defy the government ahead of the coming 14th General Election.

"We are very disappointed with the false accusations thrown against Barisan Nasional with the aim of confusing the people," he said after lodging a police report at the Karamunsing Police Station here, Tuesday.

In his report, he named DAP Teratai Assemblyman Tiew Way Keng who allegedly uploaded a fake MyKad application for foreigners on his Facebook page on Dec 26 last year.

Zulkarnain said the form with what appeared to be the Malaysian Coat of Arms and the National Registration Department logo has given rise to a negative perception towards the government.

He said action should be taken against the elected representative who spread false information, adding that the National Registration Department has issued a statement confirming that the uploaded form was fake.

The department denied issuing identity card registration form where applicants must vow to vote for Barisan Nasional.

Meanwhile, in Tuaran, the Youth and Komulakan wings of Upko Tuaran also lodged a report over the fake form.

The two wings called on the police to investigate and that the person responsible be brought to the book as it is a serious offence.

Accompanied by several members, Upko Tuaran executive secretary, Robert Tinus who made the report at the district police headquarters, here, Tuesday said they decided to file the report following denial by the NRD to the allegations that the form came from them.

"We view this matter seriously as it involved a government department and was done with bad intention aimed at instigating the people to hate the government.

"Therefore, we call for stern action against the perpetrator in order to curb the spreading of fake news and information, which is becoming rampant in the social media, especially," he said.
