23 coaches achieve 100pc pass rate

Kota Kinabalu: The 23 coaches who participated in the just concluded International Association of Athletes Federation (IAAF) Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) level one course here achieved 100 per cent pass rate.The course organised by Sabah Athletics Association and conducted by Anbarasu Subramaniam, and assisted by Raup Tasim was conducted over 12 days at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex.Anbarasu who announced the results on Tuesday after the closing ceremony graced by Youth and Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary Datuk Awang Damit Ag Anak representing Assistant Minister Datuk Masiung Banah said he was taken aback by the good showing.

"We have 100 per cent passes and this was due to their high level of commitment. They not only did well in their practical but even better in their theory."12-14 are qualified for the level two which was a very high number. Normally it was only about 8-10 and this is the first time for me as an instructor to see more than 50 per cent who managed to progress to the next level."Congratulation to those who passed and for those who did not make it they can still become a great coach in level one," he said.The veteran instructor, who had conducted courses in more than 20 countries for the international body, had earlier said the participants in level one are basically trained to become youth coaches in track and field events.

"The introduction of this level in the CECS, is to emphasise and develop the educational aspects of Kids' Athletics and Teens' Athletics."We want to produce qualified Youth Coaches who will not only be able to train and prepare young children for Kids' Athletics competitions (7-12y old) but also provide the 'bridge' to 'real' athletics.
