Man drowns at Tg Aru Beach

Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old man drowned at Tanjung Aru Beach 1, here, Sunday. The Sino-Kadazan from Kg Tombobo, Jalan Lama, Lok Kawi, identified by police as Donovan Joannes, was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 about 10.40am.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said a police team arrived at the scene about 10am after being alerted via MERS 999.

He said it could not be immediately established if the man was swimming or fishing at the beach prior to the 9.57am incident.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a team from the Fire and Rescue Department applying Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the victim, he added.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
