Kota Kinabalu: The people who are voting in the coming general elections (GE14) are voting for a change in the government but not for the candidate, said Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairwoman Christina Liew. She said this in a response to a statement made by Sabah MCA Deputy Chief Francis Goh, who urged voters in Kepayan to decide their voting based on the candidate instead of the party.

"We are seeking a clarification from him because does that mean candidates from the MCA are going contest in the coming election with their own pictures instead?

"Voters must consider very carefully because I hope they are not going to vote just because their candidate is a relative or a friend.

"The people are voting for a change, for their future as well as their children's future and future generations," she said when met by reporters, here, Thursday.

Sabah DAP Secretary Chan Foong Hin said Goh had lost confidence in his own party as well as Barisan Nasional (BN).

"That is why he urged the people to vote for him and not the party. But what can a single person do to change the shape of the future?," he said.

Meanwhile, Liew said they received positive feedback from the people of the city and rural areas.

She said several Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP members had a small walkabout around town to listen to responses from the people about the coming general elections.

"We have also been into the core of Pitas, Kota Marudu, Kedamaian, and Tuaran.

The people in there told me that they are ready to change the government," she said.

Additionally, Liew announced that PH will be organising an inaugural Chinese New Year open house in 888 Plaza Food Centre, Bundusan on Feb 17.

She said the public are welcome to join as there are plenty of food and festival performances.

She added that DAP Chairman Tan Kok Wai and Pakatan Harapan President Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be attending the open house to celebrate as well. - Locksley Ng
