Kota Kinabalu: Former LDP President Datuk Liew Vui Keong denied having joined opposition Parti Warisan Sabah but said he was keeping his options open.He was seen with Parti Warisan leaders and Sabah DAP Chairman Stephen Wong in Sandakan last week.

According to Liew who once served as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, he visited friends in Sandakan, where he served as Member of Parliament from 2008 to 2013, for Chinese New Year and attended open houses, including Wong's, where several Parti Warisan leaders were also present.

"Chinese New Year is a time to set political differences aside. Therefore, I don't see any issue in attending open houses, including those organised by the opposition," he said.

It was Wong who defeated Liew, who was also Liberal Democratic Party president for seven years before he was replaced by Datuk Seri Teo Chee Kang in the 13th general election.

"I had a pleasant meeting with him (Wong). It's good to know what he's been doing in the constituency where I used to serve for five years," said Liew.

He claimed having been approached by "few parties to join their struggle for Sabah's rights" but has not made any decision about his next political direction. He also said he was not out for political positions.

Liew, a lawyer, said as politics still runs in his blood, he cannot ignore his desire to offer his service to the people. - Leonard Alaza
