Tuaran: The resignation of eight supreme council members of Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) will not affect the party's struggle, said its president Datuk Seri Wilfred M Bumburing."With the resignation of the three deputy presidents, PCS can now move forward even better," he said during the Anak Negeri Cinta Sabah gathering, at the KKD Hall, Tenghilan, near here, Friday.

"From the beginning, Richard (Gunting) wanted PCS to contest in 35 seats, but I rejected the idea as we still need to think about other parties' demands.

"He even claimed that PCS was not aggressive enough in promoting the 'firstborn' concept.

"It was clear that they have succumbed to external pressure."

Bumburing also disclosed that he knew of a plan to table a no confidence motion by the splinter group in December, last year.

"Fortunately, their intention was not well-received by party members.

"The splinter group also accused me of not leading the party well…but how about them?

They, themselves were busy attending Parti Warisan Sabah's events," he said.

With the vacancy of three deputy president posts and other posts, Bumburing said a reshuffle will be made.

"We have appointed three acting deputy presidents – Datuk Kalakau Untol, Datuk Herman Tiongsoh and Amru Abdul Kadir to replace Paul Voon, Nicholas James Guntobon and Richard Gunting."

On Friday, it was reported that Voon, Guntobon and Gunting quit the party together with party's vice-president and Youth chief Hasmin Azroy Abdullah, information chief Ramdi Indang and supreme council members Melvin Jaikul, Lai Yun Thiam and Pinus Gondili.

They decision was made due to ideological differences and concerns over the party's choice of allies for the coming election.

Bumburing was also confident that the move will not affect future negotiation with other opposition political parties in the State.

"Now, when we negotiate, we are not only looking at the interest of PCS but also the interest of Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri).

"We have to take into account both interests," he said.

Reiterating the political pact's focus on forming a united Momogun line in the coming general election, Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri president Datuk Henrynus Amin said it should be prioritise above anything else.

"With the political pact, we can unite and consolidate the opposition for a better bargaining position, not only on seats in the bigger opposition pact but also the formation of the government.

"We have no intention of governing the State alone by forming the pact…we were actually thinking about the bigger picture.

"We believe that we gave to have a Momogun unity first before we can talk to other political parties," he said.

On the pact, he said, both parties only need to streamline their strategy in terms of winnable areas and candidates.

"But the bigger challenge now is to unite because at the end of the day, everybody has to subordinate their personal interests and look at the larger interest…what is more important is to topple Barisan Nasional (BN)."

Bumburing also stressed that it was never too late to form the political pact.

"For some, including Warisan, may think that I have abandoned the negotiation with other opposition parties.

"But, no…we have made it clear that we will only focus on Momogun-majority areas.

"We will not be standing in places like Semporna, and Sebatik, among others."

He claimed Warisan is eyeing to contest in all Umno seats, but then again "they also practise the concept of 'what is yours is also mine'."

Henrynus said Warisan also accused Bumburing of being greedy, saying that he wants the whole Momogun areas.

"But who is the real greedy party? Warisan 'eats' up all Umno seats, and after that they also want to 'makan besar' in Momogun areas," he said.

Meanwhile, both party presidents gave a positive sign on contesting in the coming election.

"If the people want us to stand, the we will, but most importantly is the struggle for the people," said Bumburing.

The gathering on Friday was the first for the political pact of PCS-Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri.

It aimed to gather members of both parties as well as to provide a better explanation on the pact's objectives and direction.

The second such gathering is scheduled to be held on April 3, in Ranau. - Ricardo Unto
