YKN to enlist volunteers to track those who missed out on govt aid

Melaka: The National Welfare Foundation (YKN) will enlist the services of more than 4,000 volunteers throughout the country to track down people who missed out on government aid.YKN Board of Trustees chairman Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the move was aimed at simplifying the process of providing aid to more than 50,000 poor people who previously did not get aid.

"We know that the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has provided various types of aid to the poor, but it is possible that some people missed out.

"So, these volunteers will help out through the Selami Kasih YKN 2018 programme," she told reporters at the Selami Kasih YKN dan Skuad Sayang programmes in Bukit Piatu, here Tuesday.

Also present were former Melaka Chief Minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam who is also Bukit Katil Umno division head, as well as Melaka Wanita Umno head Senator Rabiah Ali.

The Selami Kasih programme was mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in March last year to help people who needed immediate assistance in education, welfare and health issues.

Shahrizat who is also Umno Wanita head said she will go with the YKN volunteers throughout the country especially to the interior areas to help people from all communities who are facing hardship.

She said the ministry was always on the look-out for people who needed assistance especially those who failed to get help form any agency including the Welfare Services Department.

"So far, our volunteers have found more than 300 people in four locations namely the Hulu Selangor, Jempol, Gopeng and Bukit Katil parliamentary constituencies who were overlooked and missed the chance of getting aid," she aid.
