Pressy grabs silver for M'sia

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's Pressy Misty Philip won a silver for the country at the 17th AKF Cadet, Junior and U-21 Championships held in Okinawa, Japan from May 10-13.Pressy who won gold in the National Championship back in March gave a good account of herself before losing to her Kazakhstan opponent Alexandra Budkina 2-4 in the final of the women's -68kg category.

She had earlier defeated India's Sameeksha and Japan's Mizuki Kikuchi en route to the final.

Sabah Karate Association (SKA) Secretary General Julian Chin who related the news was happy with her achievement but reckoned there are still some weaknesses in her performance.

"It was a very good performance especially since her opponent in the final is very experienced.

I have identified some weaknesses and we will try to rectify them as soon as possible," he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia finished fifth in the competition with two gold, one silver and five bronze medals. - GL Oh
