Molesting girl: Chef held

Penampang: A 47-year-old local chef was detained by police for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl in Penampang.District Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said prior to the arrest, police received a report from a complainant saying the complainant's niece was molested by a man around 4am on June 16.

The complainant said the victim had revealed that the suspect woke her up from sleep, attempted to lay beside her and asked for permission to kiss her forehead.

When the victim rejected his advances, the suspect forced himself onto her and she managed to run out of the room but the suspect chased after her.

The victim rushed back into the room and locked out the man who left the house before sunrise.

The teenage girl did not suffer any physical injuries.

"Following the incident, we managed to arrest a local man and investigations revealed that he was working as a chef at the complainant's restaurant.

"The suspect was brought to the house of the complainant's mother-in-law to celebrate Hari Raya together with the family prior to the incident," Haris said.

The case is investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. - Jegathisan Sivanesan
