Movie jointly produced by China, M'sia starts screening today
Kota Kinabalu: Blue Tears, the first movie produced under the cooperation of China and Malaysia will be screened in selected cinemas in the State, starting today (Thursday).The film will be shown in GSC Suria Sabah, City Cineplex, Growball Cinemax, LFS Cinemas Sandakan, and Eastern Cineplax Tawau.

The 90-minute film was directed by Chinese director Zhu Dan and mainly filmed in Miri and Mulu Park in Sarawak, including the new rising tourist attraction of Tusan, Miri.

Nearly 80 per cent of the actors in the 90-minute film are local, including the leading actress Clara Wong as well as another actress, Debbie Kenstern.

Blue Tears tells a touching story of love, warmth, and exploration and it also presents the initiative of China's One Belt, One Road visionary.

It follows the story of Lin Fu Sheng acted by Shun Wei, a 75-year-old Chinese who grew up in Quanzhou, China.

He was sold to Southeast Asia as a sailor where he went to Miri and returned to China after he became successful.

However, he still could not forget his first love, Katrina who stays in Miri.

Katrina played by Debbie is the daughter of a former village head. She and Lin Fu Sheng got together for a short period of time during the Japanese invasion in Miri.

Under the influence of his grandfather, Lin Xu Yao played by Xie Ming Yu became interested in Miri and went travelling to search for his grandfather's first love.

However, he did not expect to find his love and his direction in life. During his journey Lin Xu Yao discovered the mysterious Mulu Cave, the frightening headhunters and the magnificent Tusan beach – the famous 'blue tears' beach.

Clara played the main female character Di Ya Jia, the daughter of village head in Mulu.

She is good in playing guitar, loves her life, runs a bar with her younger brother and became the object of Lin Xu Yao's affection after they met.

In a statement, the producers said the movie captured the charming landscape, culture and various scenic spots of Miri city.

"This film will bring greater publicity to Malaysia, allowing more viewers to know about the beautiful city of Miri.

"We are grateful for the encouragement and assistance from the Sarawak State Government and the Sarawak Tourism Board to work together for the development of tourism in Miri.

"Our next goal will looking at screening the movie in other countries.

"We hope to set the impression of Malaysia as a multiracial country with beautiful cities to people all over the world through Blue Tears," said the producers.

The film is supported by the Sarawak Government, Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg, Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, his Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Mary Wan Mering.
