GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Chief of Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) Youth wing, Dr Afif Bahardin has suggested that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim contest the post of president at the party election, scheduled for August and September.Dr Afif said he believed all PKR members would fully support Anwar if the former Permatang Pauh MP contested for party president."I think it is best for Anwar to contest in the election as this is the time for him to make an active comeback to the party and politics, become president and then the nation's eighth prime minister," he told reporters here Friday.

Anwar's wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, is currrently the PKR president. After Anwar's first release from prison, the PKR Congress in 2007 agreed to appoint Anwar as the de facto leader, as he was banned from being actively involved in politics because of his conviction. However, he received a full pardon from the Yang di-Pertuan Agung just days after the 14th General Election in May, which allowed him to return to active politics.Dr Afif, who is also Chairman of the state Committee on Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries and Rural Development, said the forthcoming party election was also very important for PKR in that it had to position itself as a party of the ruling government.
