Xin Ying bags Under-15 title

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's Bukit Jalil Sports School-based Yee Xin Ying won the girls Under-15 title in the first leg of the 2018 Sportexcel-Milo-NSC Junior Squash Circuit in Bukit Jalil on Sunday.The top seed brushed aside second seed Wong Po Yui 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 in the final to take the title. Earlier in the semi-final, she also had a comfortable 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 victory over third seed Yasshmita Jadishkumar.

Sabah Squash Association President Keng Chuan Seng said three other Sabah players, Tristan Andreas from SK St Agnes, Doyce Lee from SK St Francis and Eodia Lai from SJK Che Wa also did well in the tournament which was revived after a three-year hiatus.

"The tournament reintroduced this year and sponsored by Milo is strictly for the Under-13 and Under-15 age groups. Those who do well over two legs will qualify for the grand final.

"Three of our players also did well to finish in the top eight position.

Tristan Andreas took the seventh spot in the boys Under-13 category after beating Low Wa Sern 11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 in the playoff while Doyce Lee beat fellow teammate Euodia Lai 7-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8 in the playoff to finish in seventh place and Euodia in eighth in the girls Under-13 category," he said.

Meanwhile, the second leg of the tournament will be held on August 24-26 and the grand final scheduled on October 5-7. - GL Oh
