Award for Sabah PKR deputy head

DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wishing Past President of Sabah Youth Council (MBS), Mustapha Sakmud, 49, as she presents him the Pingat Bakti Belia Malaysia (P.B.B.M) and a certificate in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre, Kajang, in Selangor.It was in recognition of his outstanding services towards the growth of the youth movement in Malaysia.

Established in 1948, MBM is the national umbrella body for youth organisations in Malaysia.

"Dr Wan Azizah is like a mother to me. She was surprised to see me as I had met her a day earlier in Sabah.

But I didn't tell her that I was going to receive the medal," said the father of five who is a Consultant in the Telecommunications, Power Energy and Oil and Gas Industry.

Born in Kota Belud, Mustapha joined Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) in 1984 as a student of Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Sabah (SBPS), and became a student leader while studying at the Aberdeen University, Scotland in the UK.

Actively involved in MBS since 2002, he represented MBS in the MBM Executive Committee between 2006 and 2009, and served as President of MBS for two years (2008-2010).

He was also Sabah Deputy Chairman of ABIM Sabah from 2008 to 2009.

Currently, Mustapha is Sabah PKR Deputy Chairman and Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary. – Mary Chin
