KKIA officer released

Kota Kinabalu: An executive officer at the commercial unit of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) who was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with alleged corruption in the approval of rental sites at the airport was released Friday. Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered the man to be released on bail of RM8,000, with RM5,000 in deposit.

The man, who is in his 50s, was in remand for four days since last Tuesday and the order expired Friday.

He was arrested by MACC on Aug 6 for allegedly accepting bribes, totalling RM36,500, to approve sites for lease to carry out business at the airport vicinity.

The case was investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a maximum fine of five times the amount of bribes or RM10, 000, whichever is higher, if convicted. – Bernama
