Another golden day for Sabah
Kota Kinabalu: It was another golden harvest for the Sabah contingent at the 19th Sukma Games on Monday with four more gold medals added to their medal tally.The highlight for the team on the day was the record-breaking feats of archer Eugenius Lo Foh Soon who set two new Games and one national record as he delivered another two gold medals in the compound events at Padang Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Seri Iskanda.

It started in the morning 50m event where the 17-year-old accumulated a total point of 351 to better the previous Games record by two points to take the title.

He followed that up with a 360 total in the 30m final in the afternoon session to rewrite the old national record and Games record of 359 set by Khambeswaran Mohanaraja in the last Sukma in Kuching.

In aquatic, national diver Gabriel Gilbert Daim delivered the first gold at the pool with his convincing win in the men's 3m springboard with a score of 369.

The final gold came from sailing with the mixed team optimist of Mohd Shahieran Raiman/Syayzharoul Aiman/Muhd Aiman Adam Firdaus/NurAwatif Safri/Muhd Asnawi Iqbal Adam.

Sabah also added another silver and five bronzes with the silver from high jumper Eizlan Dahalan who cleared 2.03 metre to finish in second place while the bronze medals were contributed by Zulkifli Saidin in the men's shot put with his throw of 13.90m, karate kata men's team of Josvin Jase, Cleverence Carlos, Elreno Zeru and the women's kata team of Vellcarollyne Agustine, Alexandra Jacklya Dakius, Ester Bell Siaw Tze Ling, Nur Ain Nadzmi and Nurfazriyanti Jali in the women's synchronised platform and taekwondo exponent Hadin Ismago in the poomsae men's individual.

Meanwhile, Sabah Aquatic Sports Association (Sasa) President Anthony Kiob congratulated Gabriel for his gold winning performance.

"It was a very good performance from Gabriel and congratulation also to Nur Ain Nadzmi and Nurfazriyanti Jali for their contribution on the first day of the diving competition. They have been training very hard for this tournament and hopefully their performance will maintain and we will see more medals in the coming events," he said. - GL Oh
