'No nonsense' approach: CM
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal refuted claims that his new Warisan-led State Government proposal to review the pump boat ban contributed to the kidnapping of two Indonesian fishermen in Semporna waters last week. Shafie said there are other ways that kidnapping activities can be carried out and it should not only be assumed that pump boats may be related to the incident.

"It is possible that they (kidnappers) did not use pump boat. They could have used speedboats that have higher power and are faster."

"Whether it's ban or not, it cannot be subjected to the banning. If there are any intentions in carrying out such activity there are various ways of doing so," he said.

Nevertheless, Shafie said the State Government along with the security forces in Sabah would adopt a "no nonsense" approach to any element that poses threat to the safety of the State as well as the nation's borders.

As the State Security Committee Chairman, he said that information has been spread for relevant authorities to take stern action against any foreign elements that try to intrude with bad intentions.

"There will be no compromise in this matter to ensure the safety of Sabah and our borders so we will take stern action against any parties who have bad intentions," he added. - Jeremy S Zabala
