Tighter East Coast security control
Semporna: The Joint Task Force 2 (ATB2) together with other enforcement agencies will continue to tighten security control along the East Coast of Sabah, especially at the identified "hot spots" used by cross-border criminals. Its Commander Brigadier General Datuk Zarondin Md Amin said they will not compromise on security issues and that recent incidents in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) had prompted them to increase their level of readiness.

"It is the responsibility of the army (ATM) to continue co-operating with other agencies concerned like Esscom, police and also the local community in maintaining security along the waters of the country," he said.

He was speaking at a "Jiwa Murni Bersama Masyarakat Semporna" programme and a blood donation drive organised by ATB2, in collaboration with the District Office and other government agencies and non-governmental organisations, here, Wednesday.

Yang Amat Mulia Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariamz Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was also present at the event, attended by some 1,000 people.

Zarondin said the blood donation drive for cancer was part of the welfare activities by Tengku Sofiyya Ahmad, daughter of Tunku Mariamz, called the Aria's Initiative, under the CSR Malaysia.

The campaign aimed to collect at least 300 pints for patients with critical diseases in Tawau and Semporna.

Zarondin said the ATM organised the programme to foster collaboration with local government agencies, apart from providing a platform for dissemination of information to the community through exhibition booths and demonstration.

"This programme is also meant to build interest among youths to join the military service after their finish school or higher learning education," he said.

The ATM also displayed various weaponry and military vehicles at the exhibition hall.

The District Police, Health Office, Fire and Rescue Station, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Corp, Veteran Commando Association and Persatuan Rakan Proton Raspand Sdn Bhd were also involved.
