Hobby turns extra income for clerk

Kuala Lumpur: The beauty of terrariums, where plants are kept in glass containers, much like mini-greenhouses, was what first drew Abdul Aziz Majid's interest.Today, two years after he started the hobby for his private collection, terrariums have become a source of extra income to the administration clerk. "I can earn up to RM2,000 from my terrariums which are sold through Facebook and Instagram, as well as at agriculture shows," Abdul Aziz, 56, a father of four, said.

Terrariums refer to indoor gardens in a sealed container, and are popular as decorative pieces.Abdul Aziz said the interest in terrariums started after he visited recreational parks throughout the country. "I saw the beautiful plants and thought how lovely it would be to bring them into the home by planting them in glass jars," he told Bernama recently.Abdul Aziz said terrarium gardening has long been popular in the country, although many people do not know where to get the actual terrarium gardens.

"I have even had orders from the Prime Minister's Department to produce terrarium souvenirs for foreign delegates," he said.

He added that terrarium gardening is a low-cost hobby, and anyone can produce their own terrarium gardens, subject to their own creativity. – Bernama
