New Sabah Government's maiden budget
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal will table the new Warisan-led Sabah Government's maiden State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly here today (Friday).According to him, the 2019 Sabah Budget was carried out with the best possible judgement based on limited financial position and the current challenging economy.

"What's important to us is to ensure that we will not neglect our effort to serve the people at all levels.

"Maybe we won't be able to cover everyone but at least at this first stage we can put in place an approach in spite of the limited financial position and challenging economy," he said.

He said this after receiving the 2019 Sabah Budget document from the State Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary, Datuk Pg Hassanel Pg Mohd Tahir, at the Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS), here, Thursday.

Shafie said the budget, which would be tabled at 3pm today (Friday), would introduce new approaches for the development of youths, besides several surprises for the general public.

"It's a budget for all. We are always thinking about the welfare of the people. We want to ensure that the people's welfare is cared for."

Shafie said he also hoped the people at all levels would continue to focus their efforts on developing the State and economy.

"We don't want any doubts or worries that can interrupt progress. Enough of politics, the election has already passed and we must accept the results. What is important is to develop the State and look after the people."

Asked about Musa's statement that he will appeal against the court's decision on Wednesday, Shafie said it is up to Musa.

"As for me, I am only focused on running the State. I don't want to think much other than to develop the State and care for the people's welfare."

On the Federal Government's implementation of declaration of assets and income of MPs and whether Sabah will also follow suit for its assemblymen, Shafie said the Government will look into the matter as it is crucial for the State Government to be transparent.

"To ensure no corruption, we must do that so that we know where they (assemblymen) start and if after a five-year period we find they have moved to a bigger house...then we would know." - Neil Chan
