MAHB: No communications service disruption at KLIA
Selangor: SEPANG: The planned communications infrastructure upgrade at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which started on Jan 1, have not caused any communications service disruption at both terminals, said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).MAHB in a statement on Monday said the upgrading process had been smooth since it started and mitigation measures put in place during the period had been successful in ensuring that the availability of cellular and leased lines within the passenger and cargo terminals, respectively, remained at normal levels.

"We are also pleased to note that, thus far, there have been no complaints from all stakeholders such as the public, airlines, tenants, and telecommunication companies on any communication service disruption at the airport," it said.

The airport operator had announced on Dec 31 that the communications upgrade, which will be done in phases over a period of three months, was meant to improve the overall coverage and capacity of the cellular network at the airport and to cater for future digitalisation requirements such as Airports 4.0 initiatives, the e-commerce ecosystem and the Aeropolis development.

It said among the mitigation measures included placing fixed-line phones at information counters for the convenience of the airport users, as well as making sure the free Airport WiFi service remained at excellent connection strength to enable users to communicate via data calls through mobile apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger. – Bernama
