Money lenders fined for causing hurt
Kota Kinabalu: Two men were fined RM1,800 or six months’ jail each for causing hurt to two others. Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie handed the sentence to Wong Chong Wang, 23, and Wong Ching Kien, 27, who pleaded guilty.

The duo had assaulted Phuah Yih Ming, 30, and Andy Lau Koh Shin, 26, at 2pm on Oct 23, 2018 at a car park in front of Hot Valley KTV Bundusan,  Penampang.

The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The court heard that the  Andy’s sister, Lau Koh, 30, lodged a police report on the same day claiming that Chong Wang and Ching Kien had assaulted her boyfriend Phuah and her brother.

Chong Wang and Ching Kien had earlier assaulted Lau and Phuah tried to defend him but ended up being attacked also.

Investigations revealed that the incident happened because Lau failed to pay his debt of RM1,400 to Chong Wang and Ching Kien who are money lenders.

Following the incident, Lau and Phuah suffered injuries. - Cynthia D Baga
