Raping minor: Man pleads not guilty

KOTA KINABALU: A local was charged in the Sessions Court with raping an underaged girl. Fong Chon Siong pleaded not guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against him on Thursday.
He is accused of raping the 15-year-old at 7pm on May 20, 2018 at a house in Wijaya Park, Manggatal, near here.

The offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court released Fong on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties as well as his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court pending the disposal of his case.
Fong’s case management was fixed for Feb 25 and March 27-29, this year, for hearing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Umar Faiz appeared for the prosecution while Fong was represented by Mohd Khairudin Noordin.

In the same court, four men and a woman were jailed four and five months each for entering the State illegally.
They were Welson Hassan, Azmeer Jamaani, Abdul Eddie, Bally Saraha and Amalyn Ana.

The men were also handed a stroke of the cane each except Amalyn.

They were arrested after failing to produce valid documents during separate operations conducted in the city, recently.
