Indonesians too strong for Malaysian pair

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 men’s doubles pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia were in a class of their own as they won the Malaysia Masters 2019 at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil here, Sunday.
Marcus-Kevin faced little problem in defeating national pair Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin in the final in straight sets 21-15, 21-16 in 36 minutes to pocket US$27,650 (RM113,688).

Runners-up Ee Yi-Yew Sin took home US$13,300 (RM54,000). The prizes were presented by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“It was a good match. The host pair possess a good attack. We committed some errors but are satisfied to have emerged champions.
“The next competition will be more important as we will be playing on our home ground in Indonesia. There are a number of things to improve on and we hope to be successful as well in front of our own supporters,” said Marcus after the match.
Meanwhile, Ee Yi admitted that Kevin-Marcus were just too good and it was difficult to match them in the final.

He said that they have to work harder to be more competitive and emerge as a strong pair.
Ee Yi however, said his partnership with Yew Sin is continuing to show improvement compared to last year and hoped they would remain consistent in the coming tournaments.

Meanwhile, national men’s doubles coach Paulus Firman said the Indonesian duo were special and possessed an excellent game.
Paulus said his charges (Ee Yi-Yew Sin) showed a lot of improvement but needed to work hard to emerge a strong and consistent pair. – Bernama
