Govt urge use of recycling materials as participation fee

SANDAKAN: The State Government had asked private agencies and non-governmental agencies in this state to consider the use of recycling materials as a form of payment or fees for participating in recreational events.
State Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Arunarnsin Taib said the participation fee using recycle materials is able to raise the community’s awareness on the importance of maintaining clean environment.

“For an example, the “Go Green Fun Run 2019 Run” organised by Go To Green Sendirian Berhad, a collector of recycle materials.
“The company’s effort in encouraging keen runners to gather recycleable items for participation fees is not only able to deal with our critical landfill issue but as a way of resolving the problem in consistent and systematic method,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the flagging off of participants in the Go Green Fun Run 2019 Run at the Sandakan Sports Complex, Sunday.
Meanwhile, managing director of Go To Green Sdn Bhd, Jonathan Sze, said the run was organised given Sabah’s image as a tourist destination.

“This event is also an awareness programme to educate the public on the important of recycling and making it part of our daily life,” he said.
After Sandakan, similar event would be held in Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi.

The Go Green Fun Run with a theme of “Save Our Earth” comprised of two categories namely 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers.
The first of its kind run in the country, it was participated by almost 3,000 local and foreign runners.
