Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno is collecting reports on its members' misconduct during last month's general election and will take action on those found acting against the party's interest. He said the decision was a follow-up as discussed during the Umno Supreme Council meeting recently.
"We are collecting reports on the party members' misconduct and action will be taken against them," Sabah Umno head and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
He said several BN members had been caught as proposers or seconders to opposition or independent candidates during nomination's day on Feb. 24.
He also denied a local news report quoting him as saying that Sabah Umno wanted to take disciplinary action against six senior State Umno leaders for meeting with the Prime Minister last week.
"I have explained that the six leaders went to see the PM on their personal capacity, and were not representing Umno or BN. Their meeting with PM is not a problem," Musa said.
He said that disciplinary action was to be taken against those Umno members who worked with the opposition in the just concluded elections and had nothing to do with the six leaders' meeting with Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
"Their meeting with the party president is a personal and nothing to do with the State Umno liaison committee," Musa said, adding that the news report (not Daily Express) created misunderstanding among members.
The six are former Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Rahim Ismail, Kinabatangan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, former Tempasuk Assemblyman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia, Kalabakan MP Datuk Ghapur Salleh, former Sipitang MP Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, and former Chief Minister and ex-Kota Belud MP Datuk Salleh Tun Said.
Rahim, Bung Mokhtar, Pandikar and Ghapur were absent during the State Umno Liaison Committee meeting at Seri Gaya here Thursday night, and were represented by their respective deputies.
