Kota Kinabalu: An auditor from Sandakan who was walking to breakfast was killed after a mini bus ploughed into him on the sidewalk opposite Wisma Budaya here, Wednesday.Liew Yun Kong, 54, was heading to Kg Air where he had promised to meet up with a friend when the tragedy occurred at about 9am.
It was learnt the 41-year-old driver had lost control of the bus and veered onto the pavement, and straight into the victim. There were 10 passengers in the bus at that time.
Liew was from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after looking after his unwell father the previous night, said brother Liew Yun Kiun, aged 48.
"Before that he had been in town for about a week before going back to Sandakan. He returned here yesterday (Tuesday) and went straight to the hospital," he said.
Yun Kiun said he took over looking after their father at about 8.30am, and that was the last time he saw his brother.
He still could not comprehend what had happened. "I do not know how the bus could have got onto the sidewalk."
Meanwhile, the victim's wife who is from Penampang and their two children, one studying in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Sandakan, were scheduled to arrive in the captial Wednesday night. The bus driver has been put under police custody.
The victim's family members urged witnessed the incident to come forward and help in the investigations.
