Sabah Umno to heed PM's call

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno will respect the call by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for all Umno divisions to stop holding emergency meetings (EGM) to demand a power transition in the Party before December.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said now is the time for Barisan Nasional (BN), including from Umno, to reduce politicking and focus on their work to ensure successful implementation of development programmes in Sabah.

"We respect the call by the Prime Minister. It is time for us to work, reduce politicking," he said when asked to comment on the statement by Abdullah who is Umno President that Party divisions should stop holding EGMs to call for him to quit before the Party's general assembly end of this year.

Abdullah had said that it was better such move was not made because the leadership had understood the wish and views of the grassroots towards the Government.

"Now is the time for us to implement programmes that have been planned especially in the Ninth Malaysia Plan and the Sabah Development Corridor," Musa, who is also Sabah Umno chief, said.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony of State Assemblymen and chairing the pre-council meeting for BN elected representative here Tuesday, he reiterated that it was not necessary for the six nominated assemblymen posts to be filled.

"As I said there is no necessity at this point but maybe in the future if it is needed," he said when asked on the call for representatives from NGOs and other interested parties to be nominated to the House.

The last time that the nominated assemblymen posts were filled was in 2004.

Meanwhile, Musa said the first term of the 13th State Assembly Legislative would see the Head of State Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah delivering the Government Policy Speech on Wednesday as well as three Bills being tabled.

He said the assemblymen would have the opportunity to participate in the debate to the motion of thanks to Ahmadshah's speech beginning May 5.

He said the three Bills to be tabled are the State Constitution (Amendment 2008) Enactment to pave the way for the four additional assistant ministers, Supplementary Supply and Cultural Heritage Enactment.

As for the representation of one opposition from the DAP in the State Legislative Assembly in this term, Musa hoped the Assemblyman for Sri Tanjung, Jimmy Wong Sze Phin would carry out his duty responsibly.
