Kota Kinabalu: Former Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) Deputy President Datuk David Chong Ket Sui reminded the Club to comply with rules and regulations set out by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).The rules and regulations required the Club to hold its triennial general meeting before proceeding with the election of office bearers.

"It is crucial for any club to comply with the rules and regulations of the RoS to avoid any problem in future regarding the legality of the general meeting and election," he said in a statement, Tuesday.

Chong was commenting on talks within the Club that the incumbent committee would propose to hold the general meeting after the election of new office bearers has been completed.

He confirmed that he would be vying for one of the nine posts up for grabs in the RSTC central committee, which would then appoint the elected members to the respective posts in the committee.

The incumbent officer bearers are President Datuk Golkhan Hasbollah, Jake Nointin (Deputy President), Yap Chee Ming @Peter (Treasurer), and committee members Lim Lean Lai, Peter Han Bat Fong, Tiu Fui Khiong, Ang Chi Khung, Mohamed Hamdin Abidin and Ronald Ubin @John E. Ubing.

The incumbent committee (first group) would be facing a strong fight from three other groups who have qualified to take part in the block election of office bearers.

Chong is heading the second group with its line-up including five others, namely Mohamad Jatin Wahit, Edul Mulud, Chong Shen Lin, Ting Boo Lak and Likun Gudoh.

In the third group are Lim Fong Chung, Jake Nointin, Ronald Ubing, Chan Chau Vun, Lim Chen Kwong and Maljan Hj Sogon, while candidates from the fourth group are Terence Lee Swee Hong, Wong Su Yin, Ayog @Kennedy Jamal, Tsen Fui Wah @Dicky Tsen, Teo Ching Hock @Abdul Rahman Teo and Chin Yu Kiang @Tan Eng Kiang.

Meanwhile, Chong invited fellow full and life members to attend his group's get-together gathering at the Garden Seafood Restaurant in Tanjung Aru on July 31.

"The purpose of the gathering is to explain to fellow members the situation in the club over the past years and explore new ideas on developing the Club and improve the welfare of members," he said.

The RSTC will hold its triennial general meeting and election of office bearers for the 2009-2012 terms early next month.

The Club has 330 full and life members who are eligible to take part in the election of office bearers during the meeting which would be held at the Pan Pacific Sutera on Aug. 3, from 3pm-7pm.
