Kota Kinabalu: There are 52 positive H1N1 cases in hospitals throughout Sabah as of Saturday, according to Health Director-General Datuk Dr Mohd Ismail Merican. He said cooperation from everyone is needed to contain the spread of the flu virus.
Individuals who showed symptoms of the disease, he said, should take precaution by avoiding public places such as the Ramadan bazaar, shopping malls, workplace, schools and prayer houses.
"This is because a person with H1N1 symptoms can spread the virus when he coughs or sneezes," he said.
He said if they really have to visit public places, they must wear masks at all times and to close their mouths and noses using a tissue or handkerchief when they cough or sneeze.
After that, he said they must throw the tissue in the wastebasket and to use water and soap to wash their hands before touching or shaking hands with other people.
Dr Ismail said this is important so that the disease would not spread to those in the high-risk group, namely pregnant women, the obese, asthma or chronic lung patients, diabetic and the low-immunity.
The people also have the responsibility to advise sickly individuals or those with feverish and coughing symptoms to avoid public places.
The best is to stay at home, he said.
