OBS launches GPS on 11.11.11.11.11

Kota Kinabalu: Outward Bound Sabah (OBS) commemorated 11.11.11 in a unique way by launching its Global Positioning System (GPS) site within the OBS GPS park in Kinarut.At exactly 11.11am on 11.11.11, the staff of OBS led by its Chairman Tengku Datuk Zainal Adlin began the countdown to unveil the plaque indicating the exact co-ordinates of the OBS GPS.

The historic event was also witnessed by Board members, Dr Philip Yap and Chai Moi Len.

The plaque is situated in the OBS GPS Park which was designed and constructed by the staff of OBS.

Speaking before the official launch of the project, Datuk Gabriel William, the Executive Director of OBS, explained that the main purpose of having a special GPS co-ordinates is to introduce OBS to the world.

The OBS GPS co-ordinates are N5¡48'16.6" E116¡00'24.1" .

It is believed that OBS is the only centre in the world identifiable by GPS.

Adlin, who has been Chairman of OBS for more than 25 years, paid tribute to the staff for their creative and innovative ideas.

He said OBS has already established itself as one of the best Outward Bound centres in the world and is a preferred destination for thousands of overseas participants.

According to William, as far as OBS is concerned, the acronym G.P.S. also stands for "Greening the environment, Preserving our Earth and Saving our Planet."

Towards this end, OBS will intensify its ongoing efforts to plant more trees and participate in recycling and composting projects.

During the launching ceremony, staff of OBS planted 11 ornamental trees surrounding the GPS park.
