Kota Kinabalu: Pupils of SJK(C) Hwa Shiong , Putatan have yet to receive their 1Malaysia netbooks. And Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Yahya Hussin and Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Edward Yong want to know why.
We refuse to point fingers at anyone but we will write a letter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) about this and ask for a list of recipients, they said.
Yong said he had also been informed of other schools in Petagas and Putatan facing the same predicament.
According to him, a complete list of pupils will enable them to offer assistance and recognise those who are eligible for the 1Malaysia netbook.
He was speaking to reporters after Yahya officiated at the Chinese New
Year carnival at the school at which he highlighted the people's awareness and desire to master more than one language.
"The community's awareness of wanting to master more than one language by sending their children to SJKC is a good decision. If one can speak various languages, one has the ability to mix with other races and understand other cultures.
"Therefore, I urge students to increase their efforts in mastering languages and other cultures.
"With this effort, I believe we will be able to maintain a peaceful and harmonious relationship among us."
After his speech, Yahya also said that the government has approved a drainage master plan for Putatan but was still waiting for the allocation which may take some time.
