Kota Kinabalu: The 5th Sabah Invitation Team Tennis Tournament also known as "1Malaysia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor Challenge Trophy" will make a return to Sutera Harbour Marina , Golf & Country Club this year.The tournament organised by the Sabah Tennis Association (STA) which offers a total cash prize of RM10,000 will also be held in Likas Sports Complex from July 13-15.
The champion of the tournament will receive cash RM4,500 and prizes.
The 1st runner up, 2nd runner up and 3rd runner up will each receive RM2,000, RM1,000 and RM500 respectively plus prizes.
The format of the tournament is five doubles of various age categories for the men and one ladies' double for age group 35 years and above.
The men's will have doubles for ages 25, 35, 45 and 55 years old and above.
There are also attractive prizes under the Plate Event or also known as the Loser's Pool where the first prize winner will walk away with RM800, second place RM500, third place RM300 and the fourth place winner will receive RM200.
The tournament is governed by the ITF and By-Laws of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM).
The participation fee for each team is RM350 and deadline for registration is on Friday, 22nd June 2012. All entry forms are to be submitted to the Sabah Tennis Association, Suite E8, 5th Floor, CPS Tower, Centre Point Sabah, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah or email to acmkoh@yahoo.com.
There is a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 15 players in each team where only one player can play in one category in each tie.
Only 12 teams are accepted into the tournament.
The inaugural Sabah Team Tennis Tournament was held in 2008 and aims to promote the game of tennis as well as boosting the sports tourism.
In 2010, Datuk Seri Panglima Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Prime Minister who was the patron of the event sponsored the 1Malaysia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor Challenge Trophy.
Meanwhile, Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf & Country Club General Manager Brian Werner is delighted to rekindle partnership with Sabah Tennis Association for the 5th Sabah Invitational Tennis Tournament.
In a recent meeting with STA President Johnson Koh, he said the resort will work in conjunction with the Sabah Tennis Association to attract additional amateur and pro tennis tournaments to the club and the resort.
