Beaufort: The Sabah media fraternity mourned the loss of one of its senior members, New Sabah Times reporter Kamaruddin Liusin, 47, who died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu on Friday night. His younger brother Hanafi said Kamaruddin, who had been admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following a stroke, died at about 10.10pm.
Kamaruddin had earlier passed out in his home in Kota Kinabalu at 7am and was taken to the hospital by a friend.
"It never occurred to me that my brother would leave us this soon," Hanafi said, here.
Kamaruddin was laid to rest early today at the Ruayan Cemetery in Kampung Lawa, near here.
A former Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) Deputy President, Kamaruddin joined Sabah Times in early 1980s. He later joined the Borneo Post and Harian Mercu before joining the New Sabah Times in 1998.
Some 20 members of the Sabah media fraternity were present at the burial, which was also attended by Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Sapawi Ahmad.
Conveying his condolences to Kamaruddin's family, SJA President Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said: "SJA has lost a journalist who has done a lot of good deeds to the journalism arena in Sabah.
He had also contributed a lot of ideas to the SJA."
"He was a good journalist and a friendly person," he said.
