Registration for inter-affiliate c'ship on May 29

Kota Kinabalu: Registration for the 27th Edition of the Inter-Affiliate tennis championship will be open during the Managers' Meeting scheduled at the Likas Sport Complex this May 29. At present only seven branches are registered as affiliates with the Sabah Tennis Association namely Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kudat, Keningau and Labuan.

Its president Johnson Koh said only Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan have registered full teams in previous championships.

As for Ranau its participation have been sidelined last year due to issues with the Registrar of Societies, while Papar is in the midst of registering its body with the Sports Commissioner.

"Let's hope they will make it on time," he said in a statement here on Tuesday.

"The organising committee has held several meetings to arrange and finalise the games schedules and its technicalities," said Koh, adding that the championship is divided into four categories namely Men's, Junior, Ladies and Veterans with each body can send a team of 38 players.

The Men's and Junior categories will see a total of 12 players competing in three singles and two double matches respectively while the ladies and veteran categories will have a total of seven players in two single matches and one double.

Among others, all participating bodies are allowed to solicit for advertisements and sponsors, which STA will allow their names advertised on the souvenir books.

Meanwhile, a welcoming dinner will also be held on May 30 evening where players and officials can meet up ahead of the event.

"It is expected the new Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan will also grace the occasion," he said.
