Kota Kinabalu: The Syariah Court said, Wednesday, it will soon shed some light on the case of the child marriage and polygamy application of Riduan Masmud, who is charged with raping a 12-year-old and eventually married her. The court's Chief Registrar Ahadin Arinin said it would issue a statement within two to three days to "clear all the confusions" surrounding Riduan's application.
He said the Syariah Court would not want to interfere in the process of other justice system in the state.
"We want to resolve this issue in the most 'harmonious' kind of way," he said, and confirmed that the court had received the applications involving Riduan.
It is still in the midst of studying his files including on the chronology of events.
Riduan's case has come under pressure after a Minister and several non-governmental
organisations publicly expressed displeasure over his marriage to a 12-year-old victim.
The father of four was said to have breached the law when he was already practising a polygamous relationship although he already married the girl, without the Syariah Court's permission.
Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Jainab Ahmad on Tuesday have also suggested the Deputy Public Prosecutor to proceed to charge Riduan in the Session Court, saying the details of the case were very suspicious.
Riduan recently pleaded not guilty to raping the girl, after his counsel Lorreto J Padua revealed that he was already married to her.
