Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) president Datuk Maijol Mahap will not be defending his post at the SBA 2013 annual general meeting, scheduled here on June 28. He said the decision was made after taking all factors into consideration, including having held the post for almost seven years, since 2006.
"I am every happy as I have carried out my responsibilities well," he said in a statement, here, Monday.
When leading SBA, Maijol said the association accomplished several achievements, including winning the Best Sabah State Sports Association award for 2009-2010.
"I was also chosen for three consecutive years as the Best Sabah State Sports Leadership Personality from 2008 to 2010," he said. SBA also increased its affiliates from only eight districts to 24 districts now.
"I have also guided SBA's Selection, Training and Coaching committee to design various programmes for the development of badminton at district and state level which saw several of our youth players being sent to the Bukit Jalil Sports School.
Maijol said SBA also hosted the BWF World Super Series Masters Finals in 2008 and the Malaysia International Challenge in 2008, 2010 and 2011, and SBA would also be hosting the Asian Youth Championships from July 7-14. - Bernama
