Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib who distributed goodie bags to road users during a soft launch of the Ops Selamat on Tuesday hoped this festive season will be free from accidents, particularly fatal accidents, so that everyone can reach their destinations safely.

He said Ops Selamat is an integrated operation under the National Blue Ocean Strategy comprising the Customs Department, Road Safety Department and the Civil Defence Department, among others, to ensure the safety of all during festive season.
He said the Ops Selamat would be held for two-weeks beginning Aug. 1 after its nationwide official launching soon.
The date, he said, has yet to be announced.
The operation would include looking into people's safety both on land and at sea because many would be going back to their respective hometowns via sea.
On another development, he assured that as mentioned by the Home Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the police force do not take lightly matters where security of the nation, particularly Sabah is concerned.
"We have strengthened our security be it on land or at sea with cooperation from the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone and I think security in all sea routes, particularly in our East Coast, has been enhanced with involvement from agencies such as the army and marine among others."
He said police stations in the East Coast such as Pulau Bum-Bum and Tambisan have already started full operations and this could further boost the security in the East Coast.
On the alleged letter written by Sulu terrorists, he said police are investigating the case under Section 505 of the Penal Code and are in the midst of tracing the source.
"I suspect the letter has no connection with the terrorists from Sulu, but was made by quarters with self-interest because by the way it is written and the language used, it shows that it is different compared to people from there," he said.
Also present were Deputy State Police Commissioner SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang, Sabah Customs Department Director Datuk Janathan Kandok, Sabah Road Safety Department Director Herdianshah Abdul Karim, Senior Officers and District Police Chiefs among others.
