M'sia's campaign ends at quarter-final stage

Alor Setar: Malaysia's campaign in the 2014 BWF World Junior Championships ended when the country's three representatives failed to qualify for the semi-finals. In the tournament played at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here Wednesday, Cheam June Wei and R.Satheishtharan were defeated by their Chinese opponents in the men's singles while the country's only mixed doubles pair remaining in the competition, Tan Jinn Hwa/Goh Yea Ching were bundled out by a Japanese pair in the quarter-finals.

In the match Wednesday, June Wei lost to Zhao Jun Peng of China, 21-18, 12-21, 17-21.

"After taking the first set, I was tired and slowed down my game to conserve energy for the rubber set. In the third set, I reached point 16 first but was unable to maintain the lead following a series of errors that cost me a semi-final berth," he told reporters after the match.

In another single's match, Satheishtharan lost to second seed, Shi Yuqi of China in straight sets, 12-21, 7-21. - Bernama
