Copter flight training school in KK soon

Kota Kinabalu: A helicopter flight training school, the first of its kind in East Malaysia, will be set up by Layang Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd to meet the shortage in rotary wing pilots.Layang Layang Managing Director Johan Poong Abdullah said the school will be based in Kota Kinabalu and later incorporated as Layang Layang Helicopter Academy. He said the school is being set up to address the critical shortage of rotary wing pilots worldwide and, in particular, to meet demand in the booming Malaysian aviation market.

"We believe the measure is timely and we want to thank the authorities for having the full confidence in us to establish and run such a training facility," he said at the company's 20th Anniversary and presentation of share certificate from KOP Mantap Berhad to Layang Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd over the weekend. He said Yamani Hafez Musa has been appointed as the President of the Flight Training School to steer and propel it forward.

He said Layang Layang Aerospace will continue to contribute as a key regional aviation player and committed to excellence in human capital.

The company is presently engaged in several important contracts and is looking to reaffirm its position as a reliable and cost-effective partner in Malaysia's aviation industry.

"It (Layang Layang Aerospace) will (also) actively seek new opportunities within the offshore and medical aviation sectors," said Johan.

Also present was KOP Aviation Chairman cum Honorary Adviser to Layang Layang Aerospace, Datuk Iskandar Datuk Malik.

Layang Layang Aerospace was established in 1994 and today the company operates out from two main bases in Kota Kinabalu and Miri, which are both situated at the international airports with a combined mixed fleet of 14 rotary and fixed wing aircraft.
