Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Cebagoo FC succumbed to a shock 1-2 home defeat at the hands of Penang Sugai Ara FC at the Penampang Stadium on Wednesday.Azrul Zulkifli was the hero for the visitors as his two goals helped his team to shock the host for their first home defeat of the season.

The bottom club team who had won only once since the start of the season played well to hold the home team for the most part of the first half before they snatched the lead right in injury time.

Azrul managed to put his team in front courtesy of a misunderstanding between goalkeeper Sharul Boidi and defender Ahzuan Khan Aman that allowed him the simplest of task to strike the ball into the net.

The restart saw Cebagoo stepping up another gear and Jufrey Omopor almost equalised when he escaped his marker in the box but unfortunately his goal-bound shot was blocked by a defender for a fruitless corner.

Despite their dominance, the home team failed to mount any serious goal-scoring threat and against the run of play, they were caught napping and again Sharul failed to come off his line fast enough allowing Azrul to score his second of the match.

The introduction of Rainol Masaat and Roy Rampingon seemed to work for the team as four minutes later they reduced their deficit through a header by Marwan Kadir off a cross from Jerry Sunning.

However, any chance of a late comeback was dashed when Marwan was shown his second yellow card for an off the ball incident and with a man less on the pitch, the score remained until the final whistle.

The defeat was their third of the season and they will next take on Harimau Muda C away on Sunday (April 27).
