Sandakan: PAS Batu Sapi Division Head Haji Hamzah Abdullah said the Hudud laws are only meant to govern the Muslims, while non-Muslims have the right to choose to be governed by civil laws.He said this in reminding non-Muslims and non-Muslim political parties affiliated to the BN to halt "insulting and degrading the move by PAS Kelantan leaders to realise the wishes of the Kelantanese for the implementation of Kanun Jenayah Syariah, part of the Islamic penal code in Kelantan."

"The hudud laws that had been passed by the Kelantan Legislative Assembly way back in 1990 even before the existence of Pakatan Rakyat, is the right of the PAS government in Kelantan," he said in response to recent debates and comments made relating to this issue.

He said as the Kelantan PAS government has been democratically elected by the people that is through the ballot box, it is only right for the wishes of the Kelantanese be respected.

"What more when Kelantan's population had 90 per cent subscribing to the Islamic faithÉI strongly believe that hudud laws need to be given ample time to prove that it can reduce crimes," said Hamzah.

"Similarly, if the Islamic financial and banking principles can be accepted by both the Muslims and non-Muslims alike, then I am sure the hudud laws will be viewed positively once it is given the go-ahead by Muslim parliamentarians," he added.

"Only those prone to committing theft, deceit, adultery and rapes, are scared of the hudud lawsÉ Malaysians who are innocent and law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear in hudud laws being implemented," he said.
