Kota Kinabalu: Sabah MCA agrees fully with PBS that all the component parties must unanimously agree before any former opposition elected representative is admitted into the Barisan Nasional (BN) fold. Its Advisor, Datuk Paul Kong Sing Chu, on Thursday said this has been the common practice among Sabah BN and that it must be upheld.

He was referring to a report that former DAP Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu has been accepted into PBRS, thus increasing the number of PBRS seats to two state seats and one parliamentary seat.

PBRS President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup is currently Pensiangan MP while Datuk Ellron Angin is Sook Assemblyman.

However, Independent Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu subsequently retracted his statement, claiming he had made no such announcement.

He said he is leaving it to the Barisan Nasional leadership to decide whether to allow him into the coalition fold.

"If they don't want me to come in, then I just have to continue serving the people as an independent assemblyman," he said.

He said he wanted to join the Government through the PBRS so that he could serve the people better.

Kong, however, said Hiew would have to abide by the consensus spirit in that if one BN member cannot accept him into the coalition, he simply cannot join the BN.

"This applies to everyoneÉnot just him," he stressed.

He said while he is not against Hiew joining the Barisan Nasional, it must be done in accordance with the consensus practice.

PBS Secretary General Datuk Johnny Mositun said the party is against accepting defecting opposition elected representatives as BN members merely to boost the numbers in the State Assembly.

He said it is enough they remain BN-friendly as they claim.

Moreover, he said Sabah BN is comfortable with its two-thirds majority in the Assembly.
